XPAwarded = CInt(HitsInflicted * (9 - LN(HitsInflicted + 1)) * (20 - LN(HitsInflicted)) * (MonsterGuildLevel + 50) * CompanionFactor * GuildLevelFactor / 1000)

FinalXPAwarded = CInt(PartySizeFactor * XPAwarded)

PartySizeFactor = 1 - ((PartySize - 1) * 0.04)
(This equates to 1.00, 0.96, 0.92, or 0.88 for a 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-character party)

CInt means convert the number to an integer using Banker's Rounding.

HitsInflicted is how much damage you do to the monster. It doesn't matter whether it was a regular hit, Critical, or Backstab, or if the damage was done with a spell. If you kill the monster, HitsInflicted is equal to the number of hit points it had left (or its full hit points, if you kill it in one hit).

CompanionFactor = 1.0 if you do the damage, or 0.25 if a companion struck the blow.

GuildLevelFactor = 1 / (1 + (currentguildlevel / 333))
(This equates to 0.997 for a Level 1 character, 0.5 for a Level 333 character, all the way down to 0.25 for a Level 999 character. Note that it uses the guildlevel of the guild you're currently in.)

The formula for earning XP from opening a chest is:
XPEarned = CInt(ChanceOfDisarming * MonsterGuildLevel * 0.5 * GuildLevelFactor)
FinalXPAwarded = CInt(PartySizeFactor * XPAwarded)

ChanceOfDisarming ranges from 5 to 98 and is detailed in Trap Identifying and Disarming Formulas. Note that it's 5 to 98 and not 0.05 to 0.98.
