Helm of Brilliance or Lightning Sword cast high-level Electric Field, which is pretty good against Flame Devils and adequate against Asmo. I didn't have a Cap of Death the first few times I killed him.

The Demonist on 7 drops spell tomes if you need more SP. Though the best way to get more SP is to get your spell costs down in the first place. smile.gif

Nice work!

You're a more foolhardy braver man than most dungeon delvers, which is to say most players carefully avoid deaths, but you... court it. Yours is probably the better approach, though, since dying only sounds bad in Mordor. bleh.gif

Seeka's delayed death is because monsters get a last attack when you exit a room. If you die from the attack, you die outside the room.

I have to say I don't see the need for both a dungeon-based teleporter (or stairs) to the deep and a teleport buffer idea. The buffer would come at a price (SP) but not an outrageous one, whereas a free trip to the bottom seems cheap. It's not like it takes forever to just walk the whole way anyway.

If you start working in the idea of NPCs to do teleports etc. - well, you can already do this in original Mordor, such as stationing a healer at the dungeon stairs. Party juggling takes a bit of work, so that's the "price". I never bothered to use a dedicated teleporter in this manner because my giant wasn't using his SP anyway, so he went the whole trip.

Casting resistances is a separate question. I'd allow players to autocast them for free, though maybe after some kind of unlocking achievement (per-character+per-resistance). Manually casting resistances is busywork that doesn't add much to the gameplay.

I like all the ideas you mention.

Permanent HP loss is the worst of rocking, yes. It's not insurmountable but you need to gain up to 83 levels in your highest guild to get them back. Every other form of dying in the game is almost without consequence, so it's just totally out of proportion.

Actually, the worst thing is rocking yourself on Level 16, which I have done. Your party's irretrievable forever. (I restored from a backup.)

As a veteran player, I would not complain about an express route to/from lower levels. In original Mordor, that ended up being teleportation... maybe you could add teleportation buffers! It would automatically deduct 12 SP (or more) for each three levels down/up and let you specify absolute x,y,z coords. Relative x/y/z is just too punitive given that rocking is the only Really Bad Death in the game.

Yeah, that looks pretty clean. Proof will be in the actual use of it, but so far, looks good.

If you do put the monster icons on the 3D window, the combat log should go underneath it (i.e., switch its place with the general message window).

Also, laugh.gif @ "Heights of Lonejed".

The correct answer to everything is "bring your thief levels up". bleh.gif

Shaping up. Where does the inventory panel go?

There's not much need to have small vs. large text in Mordor, though. The dungeon view is a bunch of panels where if you have smaller text, the text is just... smaller. Smaller text doesn't increase the amount of text on screen because it's mostly just stats.

Personally, I'd always make the overhead map full size (15x15) and give it a good amount of space. Then the combat+3D display.

You can't get the text elements to scale up? The first screenshot you posted had the proportions about right. I'd keep subwindow and text sizes consistent across resolutions - but customizable with splitters or whatever.

One change I'd make to Mordor is to superimpose the monster icons (and possibly combat text) over the 3D window. Too many elements (especially the overhead map) take your focus away from the 3D display, making it useless. Combining it with combat-related info would make sense both thematically and in terms of layout, IMO.

7 is definitely the best playground for leveling in the entire game. Go deeper when you get bored with it, but you can easily gain dozens of guild levels on 7.

Yeah, the jump in difficulty from 13->14 is probably the most dramatic in the game... mostly due to Gargantuans.

Yeah, Gloves of Light are worth a bit of effort. I used to charm Gargantuans if I came across Mind Twisters with a chest.

The Hammer is nothing special, just super-super-rare.

Well, if you're anticipating it running on tablets, you might even want to try to accommodate 1024x600.

1024x768 is reasonable as a minimum size. Though I wonder what the best approach is to handling different aspect ratios (4:3 and 16:9, at a minimum). If you wanted to be lazy, you could design it for 1280x720 and it could run on 1280x1024 letterboxed and 1080 or 4k would just take 1.5x or 3x scaling.

Windowed plz.

I did a solo Nomad-only Ogre years ago for a challenge game. Got it down to level 12 before plateauing. Ogres do fine as dungeon explorers.

Use your element spells against any medium+ size group once they've reached minimum cost. Which is to say Disease and possibly Acid Spray. You'll level very fast. Use the sashes too, yeah.

I meant grab a Butcher as a companion. Or Champions. Both have high HP and Defense, though not many resists. (This is why companions are so frail in general.)

You might have to damage them a bit before Soul Entrapment will work.
