Multiplayer was only available in InfiniteWorlds and Demise, not on mordor itself :&

At last it works with dosbox and win3.11, not perfect but enough for a first glance & enjoyement.
I am gonna play a little while to mordor1.1 then will have to take a look at demise and the multiplayer features
(just hope it wouldnt take as much time and efforts to install and run XD)

Btw, Mordor 1.1 is designed to be multiplayer as is,
but it has to be played as a succession game technically,
do you know this kind of gaming ? it usually is brought along with some role-play to get the best of it

Hi all, Wow, I thought I was alone in my love of Mordor. Haven't played for many years now, so am downloading to get started again. I anticipate problems running it with windows 7, which is the bane of all old good games. Here's hoping......

wave.gif Welcome stoat and Neurodancer!

M2 actually has a multiplayer capability. I know people have played it but I never managed to join a functioning server, nor in setting it up. I don't think there are any active servers out there anymore.

Hardest solution is to run M1 in a Virtual Machine and then installing a 32 bits (or 16 bits) version of Windows. Is W7 only 64 bits? If it isn't it might work by just disabling UAC or running the game from a non-virtualized folder, e.g. D:/Games/Mordor should work fine.

Those buggers can be hard to find when you need to (any creature is like that, really). I think they have a chance of appearing near the northern stairs down on level 1, but I can't remember anywhere else.

My favorite place for finding them is at 2,14,1.

Where's that, south part of the northwest corner? Or midwest?

http://mordor.uni.cc/Maps

It's west-northwest of the stairs. Above it is a room with a transporter in the center. I think of it as the topmost room in the long north-south passage in the southwest corner of the map.

Fun fact: On most new characters, I go north from the stairs, and clear out that little block of rooms, then proceed to that hallway for some efficient training. Bonus if the dwarves drop a hammer. biggrin.gif

Thanx for the hint, but the link profides to a different dungeon than mine? Can it be I have an older version or something like that?

It's not good for the first few levels of non-legacy characters, though -- too tough.

You're playing Mordor 1, right? Maybe you don't recognize the full map vs. the partially explored map that's in your game.

Too tough? Sounds like you've never rolled a sorcerer and cleared floor 1 with shock. Non legacy so it doesn't even matter. smile.gif

Besides it more fun being unefficient.

No, I have, but those Hiksae can kill you in one hit for the first few levels. And the Twisted Dwarves. And lots of other things in that corridor -- I wouldn't go down it with at least 30-40 HP.

I think my sense of the game has gotten distorted by playing the dead-means-dead challenges. I get paranoid about facing anything stronger than a Footpad. happy.gif

Plus I often try to hold off on gaining levels until I can amass Tomes of Endurance for the extra bonus HP. So, um, my playstyle is... not typical. rolleyes.gif

Oh god, imagine if Mordor was a roguelike game with random floors for each character?

I've always liked making solo sorcerers. There's something attractive about being able to kill 2:2 groups of monsters without taking any damage early on. And then you get leprosy/poison and start facerolling the poor goblins on 3, and then go from there. biggrin.gif

I also loooove getting those cursed sash items, they pack quite a punch for an item found on lvls 1-3 and make soloing pretty much a process of pinning and running back until you're guildlvl 50
