Hello

Any time I get a quest for a monster, I usually bag them instead of simply killing them. Lately, I've gotten into the habit of bagging the more rarish monsters for laters as well.

Unfortunately, I often forget which ones I'm after during my stay in the dungeons, so I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of the more rare ones that are worth grabbing on sight.

Based on the suggestions and data the helpful people posted below, here's a list of them sorted by the starting level that the monster can be found on:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Not included in the list are monsters that can be found in certain rooms, monsters that can be (relatively easily) found as groupies to another monster, monsters that are immune to charming spells and monsters you won't be quested for.

Any additions to the list or suggestions for removal would be welcome.

Heres a few more: Swashbuckler, Hydra, Morey Bilk, Morgul, Grael mosquito(?), Gythek Lizard. The Gythek lizard is not charmable I believe, and the swashbuckler very hard to charm (high resistance). I'm sure there's more.

I believe the Hendersons Mordor site listed rarity for monsters.

It does list their encounter chance, but ones which are rare on their own but generated more commonly as companions, or are laired but have 0 chance otherwise (like the aboleth and the goblin shaman) kinda throw that off.

These are good, but I don't think Gračl mosquito would be suited for the list. They sure aren't common, but I have seen them occasionally in the lower left corner of level 3, near the Firagons.

As for the Gythek lizard, I've never been able to bag one of those either.

The idea is to get a set of monsters that you usually forfeit a quest for. Basically, having one (preferably two) of these monsters in your confinement means you never have to forfeit a quest for them again.

Quite right -- ZBrats, for example, are almost never seen, but there's a room where you encounter them quite regularly.

hmm i remember playing around with the demo version of mordor and coming across then every ~2-3 trips to lv 3 but then again, playing the lv 3 demo make me spend most of my time on lv 3 anyway

I'm afraid my answer to this can only be a partial answer. I can give you a list of the monsters that have in theory the lowest chance of spawning, but the real chance of spawning also depends on the number of rooms that are marked to spawn a given monster type. For example Namanas have a fairly high chance of spawning in theory, namely 25% (the exact chance being a complicated function, but this serves as a nice index), but since the rooms marked for Indigini-spawning are very few, the average player might consider them rarish. And outright rare when quested for Namanas. dry.gif

So here's the theoretical chance of spawning of the rarest monsters, given the disclaimer above.
*********************Spoilers***********************
Monsters that have a 8% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 7% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 6% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 5% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 4% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 3% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 2% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Monsters that have a 1% chance of spawning, ranked by level:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Obviously the ranking above abstracts from lairs. Goblin Shamen aren't all that rare, if you know where to look for them, the ranking only gives the chance of meeting some out of the lair.
You also will never meet Shadow Ninjas, T'Manas and Dragon Turtles unless you play the T'Mana and Dragon Turtle mod.

This is a nice subject ohmy.gifk: , hunting rare monsters is one of the most fun objects in the game imo.

For level 2, i would not include the
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
in the list, you stumble on them pretty often. The
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
can't be charmed, so it doesn't belong there either.

For level 3, don't forget the
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
, they are not so easy to find.
For level 4, definately add the
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
, that one is extremely hard to find.

That is a stud room, but so far I've only seen hennarts there. In theory this room could spawn the monster mentioned above, so it's possible you've encountered it in this room a few times. But if you did, I think you were lucky.

There are some more monsters that tend not to be there when you need them, even if they're not super rare, for example:
