Would you like to keep challenge games as a feature?
1)Yes, leave the challenges alone. I love challenge games (even though I'm too shy to post my character files). [ 12 ] ** [34.29%]
2)Yes, but get rid of the deadlines. I never get round to finish them on time, but I would if I could do them whenever I liked. [ 12 ] ** [34.29%]
3)Mordor doesn't lend itself to challenge games, so we might as well get rid of them. [ 2 ] ** [5.71%]
4)I don't care either way, really. [ 9 ] ** [25.71%]

Since the past couple of challenges met with very little response, I was wondering whether we should keep them at all. I mean, is there really any point in me trying to come up with new challenges if nobody plays them? Or maybe I'm wrong and people play the challenges in private without telling anybody? dntknw.gif
I honestly don't know, so please vote and tell me what you think. unsure.gif

4)I don't care either way, really.

not that i can enter them atm (edited my only copy of mordor and slimey's download is down) but i think that they started to get a bit "Stale" from there being too many of them (maybe change it to one a month (or every 2 months)

Being the neutral bastard I am I chose #4.

TBH I think the long-term challenges like the Creative Kill Quest are a better idea than the week-long ones.

Voted #3 - sorry! For me, a challenge where you have to wipe your data files first can be fun for one try, but not if the idea is to do it every week or month.
I think the problem with these challenges is that you need to start the game over from the beginning - it feels more satisfying to continue with what you have.

Fair enough, then. To be quite honest, I would have voted #4 myself (if it hadn't been sort of pointless to vote in my own poll). So I'd suggest that unless I get lots of responses from people begging me to keep the challenges (yeah right) I discontinue them.

Do you think it would make sense to try and come up with more challenges which allow you to use legacy characters or the characters you have or should I rather not bother? dntknw.gif

I think that would be a good idea personally. To be honest, that's my main reason for not doing the challenges, because I just can't be bothered to go through the hassle of wiping data files, etc. etc.. Hence why I said the long term challenge was a good idea.

I voted 2. I have been able to play a bit only the cursed items challenge, but I didn't have time to play more than an hour, or so.
I agree with what's been said, short run challenges are sort of 'wasted time': once one is finished, you need to wipe your data and start afresh, etc. It's hardly rewarding. sad.gif

Right, what about a challenge based on legacy characters, then? Like the Spoiled Brat Challenge I suggested a while back: Spoiled Brat Challenge (post #19 in this thread)
The Rocky Challenge should be possible with a legacy character as well (although I suppose there'd be no ultimate goal for the challenge except waiting until Rocky is old enough to retire from boxing and sell insurance instead... unsure.gif ).

May I make another suggestion to help on this topic. If Mordor is anything like Demise you can install it in more than one location. If you changed the names of your first installs shortcuts to Mordor (entername), and then installed a fresh copy of Mordor into a new folder on your hard drive you would have a fresh start available w/o messing up your first set of files. This would also give the ability to have continuing challenges for the new characters and those character's legacy children.

voted #2 because if you are desparate to keep all your old backup files, just copy them and place them in a zipped folder or something, that way you can have your old and new files, (do it all the time on rogue-likes, I know it's not appropriate but I'm used to being able to save and load. crazy.gif )

Of course you can. You're more than welcome to. Actually as you can see we're currently considering whether we should get rid of deadlines altogether.

Good point. Well, I suppose we could treat the challenge games like the metalman challenges in ADOM: whenever somebody manages to complete one he makes a post to brag about it... dntknw.gif

Or they could be ongoing challenges, with records to be set/topped. Whoever gets further/finishes sooner would be the new champion. So there could be an ongoing challenge to see if anyone can find an Aard more quickly than you did (that was your win, wasn't it, AJ?). And an ongoing battle for bragging rights. If anyone cared.

Or, for instance, how far in the game you can progress with a solo Nomad-only. I did actually try that challenge for my own amusement. I was hitting Level 12 pretty regularly, but lost my Pure Mithril to a slime trap and gave up. mellow.gif

you could do "hi-scores" challenges (ones without deadlines) and then the "best" challenges (ones with them). Only do the "best" challenges every 6 months or so, but have a deadline, then ask what kind of challenges people want to do (with a poll or something) for the "hi-scores" challenges. dntknw.gif

Uhm, a Hall of Fame, with a small box in the site for the best winners. Hey, that could actually work! tomato.gif
Especially if you can keep your character/party, without restarting from scratch.

I think it would add an amount of challenge (pun not intended) to the game, beat the highest person... kind of like the arcade.
