Just to throw one more aspect out there for dropping pieces of the backstory, it might not even have to be the main backstory, since doing that may completely interrupt the game. They could just be larger pieces of history taken down by the scribes of the past.

Hey there! You know its refreshing to have such good points brought up. And yes...you have come upon something that I as a description writer for the group have been trying to do for a while. The item and monster descriptions you will encounter in this game will not only tell about the particular critter or object...but in many cases we have tried to make them windows into certain events, sects, characters and places. Without being too specific, some are written as letters from one individual to another, others are journal entries, others recount historical events...its all to give the impression of a vibrant and alive world that exists just outside the confines of the game [that being: you just go into the dungeon and quest]. Many descriptions are very humorous ..some are very long and others are brief. Many will be tying into the main back story and there is an effort underway to get this to happen. Other descriptions are just windows into events, people and places and are "one off". But trust me...you will not be disappointed if you take the time to read them. I do also like the idea of finding scrolls or some such in the mines that tell pieces of history but as I am not a coder...I don't know how feasible this is yet... if at all.
As far as Erik's crayons are concerned...don't worry, we'll only have you hunting for 129 of em...not 128! blink.gif [just kidding!]

2. Some enemy monsters can drop ancient texts.

Based on the information given in the helpful in the Depths of Dejenol, it took 1000 years for the entrance to the mines to be rediscovered. Surely, much of the history of the mines was lost. It is possible that some of the more literate monsters, such as the spellcasters, could possess these texts, and drop them for the player to find. They could definitely provide a lot of interesting backstory to the game.

And, if no one liked those, maybe create Erik's Broken Plus-1 Crayons? tongue.gif

Well, I know the writing of the backstory/ history is in the works...the DROPPING of pieces of backstory is very interesting and could be a hoot IMHO cool.gif we are also including backstory fragments in item and monster descriptions so you definately will have to take the time to read them...its been an interesting process as the descriptions have been influencing the backstory and vice versa.

and not to give too much away, but Erik's Plus 1 Crayons will be making an appearance sneaky.gif

But I really like the idea of the secret doors always being subtly visible --

I agree. Invisible doors should be somewhat visible to reward those who have the patience to look for them. I've always liked that feature in other games. happy.gif

I agree that improving/ajusting artwork would be just fine, but I actually like the idea of a wide variety of artwork. The new styles look very good; the tree beast is already my favorite ok.gif

I agree with you too. Its really fun to see the varied types of pics that are being generated. Sometimes they can drive us to whole new directions. ok.gif

I use it because I write alot and it is almost identical to Word 2003 which is much easier to use than the new word 2007. Word 2007 is bundled with my loaner laoptop with vista on it.
And abi word is free.... coffee.gif

I agree. The new Microsoft Office layout is terrible. I'd rather just have a drop down menu like old-school in Word.

So io am using Abi word in the interim. Its very good and woks on Vista and save files like old school Microsoft word. AbiWord is a free word processing program similar to Microsoft Word. It is suitable for a wide variety of word processing tasks.
try it

ok thats my two cents! huh.gif

I'm currently working on a loaner laptop with vista installed and I really don't like it at all. Many of my apps and spyware protection progs etc act buggy, or crash all together. It has the new office installed and I hate it. It is very different. Seems to be well thought out though...but I just don't have the time to get used to it. Mordor seems to work fine as it is browser based...no real issues i can see. Bottom line wait till more progs catch up with it and people make stuff backwards compatable.
Stick with XP for now. not_ok.gif

I always just keep putting them in my bank...after combining them of course and when you get quite a few built up they do kick butt on the bosses of say level 7...so they are good to have to save from using your rings or spells...kinda like using the white sash...that thing comes in handy alot.

As one of the description writers...lets just say that this and every other item will be described fully [and hopefully with flair] in this version we are working on here. Hang in there...and you'll see for your self! ohmy.gifk:

As part of the dev team...I have to give a HUGE vote of confidence to the coders, artists and other writers who are working steadily and consistantly to bring this product to fruition. Its nice to see the appreciation from the community. Believe me folks, these good people are quality and you won't be disspointed with the final result! ohmy.gifk:
