Here would be list of the toughest monsters on each floor (as the topic name says).
I'll make only few first levels. Fell free to add replies with Your own experiences about monsters. Ofcourse I won't include here laired monsters, such as Aboleth and stud square monsters, because they are obviously the toughest.

Lv 1 - Margoyle
Lv 2 - Skuldragl
Lv 3 - Nastrum
Lv 4 - Hennart
Lv 5 - Pelagron
Lv 6 - Imp (yes, yes, not Zbrats)
Lv 7 - Drakul
Lv 8 - Ninja
Lv 9 - Phantasmal Mist
...
The furter levels are for you

how do you define thoughest? HP? Weapon Resistance? Spells? A/D? ...

You should also take into account some monsters (like Zbrats) always travel in big groups.

By saying "the Toughest" I ment the monster, that You think hard to kill and that kills You easyli. I didn't put ZBrats, because you can avoid fighting with them, 'cause they sit mostly in one particular place, and you can meet Imps everywhere, and they Are annoying

I am sorry but I think this depends too heavily on your character/characters. A ninja would be a seroius nuisance for a solo giant of adequate level, but it would be a deadly threat to a solo Sorceror or Wizard (And i'm talking of characters of a "reasonable" experience level, since a ninja is nothing for a lvl 300 vhararcter no matter what class he is).
So as BD said, you can make lists based on various characteristics (A/D, HP, resistances... ) but no absolute list. For example, monster resistances are very dangerous for spellcasting characters while warriors couldn't care less about them ...

For the first 4 levels I would say:

Level 1: Margoyle, Hiksae, Twisted Dwarf
Level 2: Ants, Dimeon
Level 3: Munsae, Nastrum
Level 4: Giant Leeches, Pelagons, Hydras

The Giant Leeches that I mentioned might be rare, but the first time you encounter them - unless you run away at first sight of them - it usually means instant death. It did for me anyway tongue.gif

Slimes aren't nice at early levels either, because they tend to spit on you for heavy damage when you are least prepared for it.

I would say Level One is the Aboleth... Alothoug you can avoid him, so it's not much of a threat. Very deadly though.

I don't know, I think on level 2, the vomitous goos were tougher for me (can't remember if that's the correct spelling of it). Dungeonweeds took longer to kill, but the goos did a lot more damage a lot faster.

and they can cause Paralysis "shutters" which usually means death but again it depends on your guild (if you can get a desent spell off then there are a lot less to worry about)

I have an even better level 1 monster that's not laired, and not on a stud square. The TENGU. I just started a new party to beat the game again, and they all got wasted by it. Twice. not_ok.gif

Bah! One time, I was held up for three days on a Tengu quest. Questmaster never assigns me hard monsters... only hard-to-find monsters. crybaby.gif

Hmm...tough question!

L1-Tengus
L2-Hmm...let's say those dam' paralyzin' mummies
L3-Swashbuckler. Terrific!
L4-Pelagon, yeah! I agree!
L5-Maybe sorcerers...hmm...
L6-Grey Oozes! They're really bastard!
L7-I don't like that level! However I'd say Champions!
L8-Ninjas. They're rare but if they show up...
L9-Mundragons. Deadly!
L10-Phantasmal Mists!!! ARGH! But Kenymahs too rock!
L11-Banshees. But just 'cuz they always drain me even though I'm draining resistant!
L12-Griffins. And they ain't lair monsters!
L13-Silent Eagles
L14-Gargantuans! I really HATE them!!!
L15-Embarassing choice...Red Cloak Assassins, maybe...or Magi Lords, when you have no resistances!!!Ah!ah!ah!

I am still soloing with a 30 Nomad and 40 Warrior Giant and so far the monster I avoid most on lvl 2 is the Vommitis Goo.

Mummies are OHK by now, but the Goo, can still pack in a good 40+ dmaage via acid if there is more than one in the room.

OH, and I got the game 5 days ago thereby not knowing much about it. So don't ask me why I am not on lvl 4 yet....

I assume that this does not include stud squares or lairs

my hall of records thingy had green ooze as the hardest monster for a while (lvl2)

you can accually met random groups of goblin guards/shawmen on lvl 3 and 4

The hardest eh.... Since I've not been past level 3 in about 5 years (my friend borrowed the game CD and my hard-drive got wiped, I went away and lost contact with him until recently...anyway) I'll tell you the hardest up to that point.

Lv. 1 4Slavers with slaves (the slaves aren't the problem)
Lv. 2 Skuldragls, or pinyl's (Ive died a lot by them.)
Lv. 3 Nastrum, ants, or, surprisingly, ice demons (died a lot because of a lack of sufficient weaponry.)
