Seth's Spellcost Guide/Tool

Well, i promised in the chat room that i'd probably have the guide done today. Anyways, I finished most of my game research stuff, so here is the xls file you can use to find the spell cost of a spell at a given SL (tomorrow i'll probably post a new one with all the min spell cost levels precalculated for you).

Using the tool is pretty simple, the first page calculates for charm of opening, type in a class from the list's SL in A12 and it will calculate the spell cost for all the classes that can use charm of opening for that spell level (i just grouped them all together since those classes don't have any other spells). The other pages are all for the classes with a real spell list. Type your SL in that class into B2 and it will calculate the spell cost for all spells. Note that i didn't bother to put an if in there yet, so if the spell cost is lower than the initial SL, the actual spellcost is that number. Any other questions i guess put i reply here or pm or IM me.

Soon to be improvements added to the xls file: some cleaning it up to look better, avg/max damage for the given spell level, a page with a list of the important spells and the numbers for that maybe

Coming Soon: i have a whole webpage with stuff, but i haven't gotten around to setting up my webserver where i will be hosting it, look for that at some point

Current Version of tool V1.02 is now up as of Wednesday (9/29) at 10:21 EST. I just changed the initial spell cost of teleport for seeker to 199, making it correct, thanks keltosh

WHAT I MEAN BY ON TOPIC: the last thread had like 12 posts, 9 of which were mostly useless. you can pm me if you want to ask questions about how i implemented it, only reply if you have a request of what you want to see me add to the guide, or if you find a bug

Sorry but i think there's a big error on the cost of teleport for seekers.
My lvl 161 Seeker Giant (lvl 81 spell level) has a spell cost for teleport of 29, while your spreadsheet says that it should be 17 ...

thanks keltosh for pointing out the bug, it turns out seeker's initial spell cost for teleport is 199 not 119 (guess mistype or something there), version 1.02 is now posted with that fix

If anyone's interested, I took the liberty of cleaning up Seth's spreadsheet, added the minimum spell points possible for each spell (matches the spell level), tidied up the input fields, and added an Experience tab to easily calculate experience needed for any race/guild/level combo.

Modified Seth's Spreadsheet

Nice work on cleaning up. ohmy.gifk: However the formula for experience is wildly off. Try the one found in this thread:
http://mordor.uni.cc/forum/XP_Estimates-t823.html
Having gold estimates too would be awesome. Nudibranch made a post with the formula:
http://mordor.uni.cc/forum/Leveling_Cost_Formula-t1353.html

And min max ranges for damage/healing spells:
http://mordor.uni.cc/forum/Spell_Damage_Formula-t1208.html

Don't feel like you have to do it. This is just a wish-list. wink.gif

Use this formula for XP if you do choose to add it. It's the actual formula -- not an estimate:

http://mordor.uni.cc/forum/index.php?showt...findpost&p=6899

For the exact number, round off the result of the formula.

Spell Cost Tool 1.03

I never said I don't like a challenge tongue.gif

Added everything listed on Aardless's post, fixed the exp formula (I blame Slimey's page for the incorrect one), and added a few more things...

Sorry for the zip file, for some reason my webhost isn't allowing me to upload anything larger than 222k... gonna have to email them about it. Oh well.

If you think of anything else to add, or find any other bugs, let me know!

Edit: Braindead's right, I changed everything back to Seth's name, credit's due where credit's due... also uploaded it to the Download section, hope it gets approved!

I think that you should not change the name of the tool without permission from Seth. unsure.gif

You should be able to upload it to the downloads section. (click downloads tab and then click the link Add a file).

Excellent work! ohmy.gifk:
The only things I can find to pick are:
1. 'Teleport' can be used as a fighting spell.
2. I believe Charm spells act in the exact same way as Kill spells: if 'damage' is lower than monster hp, nothing happens, otherwise the monster is charmed. So it would be nice to have that info too, maybe in a different colour.

It really does not work for me. I get a 0 bytes file. Which is quite weird. Anyone willing to either upload it somewhere else or to send me via mail (which I'll provide by pm )? thanks...

Try this link
I hope I did everything all right. It might work for only a few hours, though.

Apparently I'm retarded, I zipped up the file while it was still open, so turned into a 0kb document in the zip file... uploaded with a new link, also modified the old one

That worked fine for me, I like it.

Dumb question, I must be missing something:

Is there a correlation between guild level and spell level? A formula? I see that my Ninja needs a few more SL to lower the cost of his CoO, but how many guild levels does that mean?

Spell Level = (Guild Level / 2) - 0.5

So Guild Level 23 = Spell Level 12, for instance.

Spell Level = (Guild Level / 2) plus 0.5, thanks A.J. And it's rounded down: "*.5" is treated as just "*".
