So, I was looking for Mordor-themed wallpapers for my Mordor Machine (it's a Windows XP virtual machine I set up to play Mordor in case you haven't read my recent posts), and although I haven't found any decent wallpapers so far, I did find something else that you all may find interesting.

http://www.nexusmods.com/grimrock/mods/44/?

Apparently, someone has recreated the first three levels of the Mordor 1.1 dungeon in Legends of Grimrock, as well as adding things like extended classes, shops, improved replayability, and so forth. I never did like the more puzzle-oriented gameplay of Legends of Grimrock, but I thought this was interesting enough to share nonetheless. Sadly, the maker of the mod has not updated it since mid 2013.

Does anyone know of any other mods based on Mordor that are out there?

Excellent! Incidentally, I have the sudden urge to play some Mordor. It probably has something to do with the fact that I have been posting on this forum lately... Welp, time to find myself some kind of emulator/virtual machine/whatever!

Hey guys! Sorry about the admittedly excessive leavee of absence, I had a lot of personal life problems that I have finally taken care of.

I am currently working on mxp, although I can only dedicate a few hours a day at the most because of my work schedule. I'm currently using python, so those few hours can provide a lot of tangible progress. I'll try to keep my personal updates in this thread since I don't speak for the whole team.

Also, for people wondering about giving the source code, it's impossible. There is a deal with decklin preventing us from doing so, don't know if I can elaborate any further.

Sorry for getting hopes up earlier, but hopefully I can redeem myself.

Feel free to ask Amy questions and I'll answer I'd I can.

We are used to waiting by now, so I have one question and one question only. Will we get to play Mordor XP some day?

My money challenge character brought back a Ring of Entrapment! Cheers to the Black Pelagon lair! cheer.gif I've been too much of a miser to have bothered realigning it from good to neutral yet, but I'll probably do that when I next run into something interesting. It's still too early in the dungeon to use an OoLD charge yet, but at least this should help with that questmaster.

Ah, the questmaster. I'm sure we have all fantasized about brutally slaying him at some point.

If that were to be an option, and a team were to exist, I could pick up Mordor XP production.

If you can get this game released at last, please do. We've all been waiting for years.

Making a mistake in character creation and having to delete the unfortunate character and make another is pretty bad.

I think Rowdy is another one. The picture looks weird too. It's like this guy wandered into the wrong game, thinking it was an arcade beat-em-up of some sort.

That is an impressive necropost. There's a full nine years between the last post and yours. I'm not being sarcastic either; I'm seriously impressed!

Anyway, that's how I always said it too. I never thought about it until now.

i remember when i played this game for the first time. it gave me the creeps lmao i hated the stoners. laugh.gif that was back in 1996 when i was 8

then i came to this site and found good posts and nice people. then i had to go away for a while and then my email got hacked and now i have a new id. congrats braindead for keeping the site running even to this day! biggrin.gif

I was always so terrified of the game when I was little. I played the shareware version, which I got from some stupid disc with a large gallery of bundled shareware. It was mostly crap, except for a few gems including Mordor.

I've recently managed to emulate Windows XP on this computer, which allowed me to play the game without having to use dosbox to emulate Windows 3.1.

What are the chances of him letting one off the hook?

I don't know the exact chances, but it's not very likely.

The Questmaster is one of my most hated characters in any game. He is obstructive and cruel, even in the best of times. Occasionally, he "lets you off the hook" though, which is always very relieving.

Actually, it's pretty incredible that we're still finding new things to discover in this game, especially considering it is 20+ years old.

Respawn time should be 20 minutes, I think? A possibility is that Mordor is passing the variable as 20 and somehow DOSbox interprets it as 2. Anybody with a sufficiently strong party and running DOSbox care to try on level 8?

Why level 8 in particular?

It has been a long time, but recently, I have been longing to play this good old game again. I'm much smarter now, and I managed to set up Dosbox (with D-Fend Reloaded, of course), emulate Windows 3.11, and finally get Mordor running again. I feel so stupid, having given up long ago because of it not working natively on a 64 bit OS! No doubt, the more technically gifted among us have managed much more elegant solutions, but I am still proud of my success.

I'd like to say hi to all my old friends here. I have fond memories of the many technical discussions held by Aardless, Grobblewobble, Danjen and others. While I usually wasn't knowledgeable enough to engage in them myself, I still enjoyed reading them. In any case, I have missed you all very much, and it pleases me to know that the community is still alive and well. I wish to engage in lively discussion once more, and to finally play the game for real, having only screwed around in the first couple of levels until now.

I've started a giant character named "Finder" (inspired by someone else here whose name I forget), and he got pinned at level 7, after being given a quest to kill a Rowdy. Being unable to "find" any Rowdies to defeat, he is stuck in limbo until I find one of those accursed things! On the bright side, he did manage to find a potion of insight. Now, I've started a female gnome called Tatiana. I've designed her specifically to enable her to be a mage, and she will venture into the dungeon surrounded by four companion monsters, who will hopefully kill anything that tries to stop her on her journeys.

From what I can tell from your occasional updates, you are almost complete. There is no excuse for taking this long. NO excuse!

Here is what you should do. Release something playable NOW. What are you afraid of? You have absolutely nothing to lose! I think I speak for us all when I say we are tired of waiting.

Well I sure hope the project hasn't been held up for the last 2 years because of a bunch of random monster backgrounds. Can we focus on the critical things first? That would be fixing game-breaking bugs (if any) and finishing the core functionality. Want to know the best thing you could do for morale for both the dev team and the rest of us? Release something. Anything. As long as it's playable I don't care if there are things left that haven't been implemented yet. People will play it and it will generate a lot of positive discussion that will be good for everyone. You can always release updates later, it's not like people are just going to download the prelim version and then forget about the project. There are a lot of fanmade games/mods that are in a state of constant development kind of like this, except the difference between those and this is that they actually release it as it progresses and everyone has a lot more fun.

This! I couldn't care less if there is missing artwork here or there! Just release the damned beta already!
