I don't know how we missed adding this challenge when challenges were still 'hot' as this is a pretty classic challenge:

The challenge:
Create a new character (preferably a gnome) and try to get as deep in the dungeon as you can. (don't go back to town to heal or to level up)

Restrictions:
- You don't have to reset any files
- You can particpate as many times as you want
- There's no end date for this challenge (open challenge)

You can brag about your results in this thread.
You can attach your mdata4.mdr file (character-file) to your post as well.

Which bit's the challenge then? Surely just getting deep in the dungeon is kinda the point?

I edited my first post for clarifications.

Yes, the challenge is just that. Just get as deep as possible in one single run with a newly created level 1 character. (don't go back to town to heal or to level up)

Can you buy items from the town before setting out?

Can this created character be given like a million tomes, potions, and best gear for a lvl1 char before heading into the dungeon?

This would enable the char to max their stats in room 1 and then go down.

Booyah. 13,26,5.

Most of it is luck in having your path populated by non-hostile or weak monsters, although there are certain tricks that help, too. Setting your Dex to max is one of 'em; setting your default action to Defend is another.

I did outfit my character with basic first-level gear (leather and bronze); nothing he couldn't afford out of his starting money.

It is possible to cheat, even accidentally; if another character has killed any of the monsters in the rooms you pass through, it makes it a lot easier. You could probably walk unmolested all the way down to 15 if someone cleared the way.

Well, so long as you could do it all in 15 minutes or so before the monsters respawned, presumably. 5? Nice!

@Brizar: That's not really within the spirit of the challenge methinks, but in any case you'd still have 15 HP the whole time, so I doubt it would make as much difference as you might think.

well it would really depend on what you`d fight, if you run into something fairly strong and in a large group, you`ll probably fall quickly dispite the equipment and stats

Of course you shouldn't clean the dungeon first with another character, the dungeon should have creatures in all rooms you visit... bleh.gif
