Great job to everyone who submitted a description (or several) last round. They were all fantastic! The development team will sort through the descriptions and let you know if your description was selected.

This round of contests will be all about thieves - the scum of the depths. We've decided to include a few images per round of contests; however, we will not post an image for every item and monster as we would like to keep some surprises for you to find during the game instead. These images may be helpful for writing your description(s). This round features images for the Thief Sword, Shadow's Blade, and the Pickpocket. happy.gif
Please read through the first post of this thread for rules and guidelines before posting your description(s).

Items

Monsters
  • Cutthroat (Thief, level 2)
  • Pickpocket (Thief, level 3)
  • Thug (Thief, level 3)
  • Robber (Thief, level 6)
  • Master Thief (Thief, level 14)

When writing descriptions for monsters of the same class, it is sometimes helpful to pay attention to their specific stats and attributes to distinguish among them. Among this batch of thieves, for example, the Pickpocket has a higher attack than the Thug, while the Cutthroat, Robber and Master Thief are the only ones who can backstab. If you plan to write more than one description, it may also be helpful to create a consistent back story that can be applied to multiple descriptions.

Good luck, and we look forward to reading your descriptions! biggrin.gif

Shadow Blade
This blade is shunned by those who have morals, or any kind of respect to another living thing. This blade is also not only shunned, but feared by those who are good. even people of neutral alignment shiver when they see this awesome blade.

Its darkness seems to eminate from the users heart, and glows a sinister black. It is so it so dark, that light does not come near the blade itself, shrouding the user in an impermeable darkness.

It was not known who created this blade, but rumors suggest that it was made by the creator, sacrificing his heart, where his loathe and hatred to anything alive was concentrated.

These descriptions can either be applied altogether, or a single line, if it is sufficient.
Hope this is good enough.

Master Thief:

The thieves of Mordor quickly developed a hierarchical structure, sending gold ever higher up the chain of command. The Master Thief leads this group of rogues and robbers, having risen to the heights of subtlety through years of experience 'redistributing' the wealth of opponents in the deepest levels of the dungeon. Even so, if you see this fiend, consider yourself lucky. Most who come across the Master Thief know of it only when they feel his knife thrust into their spine, and see his face only as he values their gear, now stained by the pool of blood as their life slowly ebbs away. When a mere glimpse of this foe is an achievement in itself, it is hardly surprising that killing him is far from simple. While lesser thieves rely on speed and cunning, those who reach the upper echelons of the order are truly powerful opponents, capable of far more than stealing your purse before a hasty flight. If you do somehow defeat the Master Thief, be warned that you are not free from him. There is always another ready to take up the mantle of Master. Should you have any lingering doubts about the power of this monster, think on the maxim that has always served as the motto of all thieves who reach the rank of Master:

It is much easier to steal from the dead.

Thief's Sword
If a thief ever challenges you to a duel then you'd be wise to decline. As the saying goes, there is no honor among thieves, and the humor in this weapon is that it is not a sword but a dagger. Piercing spines, slicing purse strings, cutting bonds. These are the priorities of a thief's craft, and of a thief's weapon. A visit in the dead of night, that is where your thief will regain his honor.

Thief's Gloves:
These fingerless gloves offer a modicum of protection while allowing full use of dexterous talents. Though the jagged blood stained cut of the fabric gives questions to whether this style was by intent or mishap.

Thug:
A muscled brute. Lacking both the charm and finesse of his trade, he nonetheless claims the title of Thief. The bouncer of the criminal underworld.

[*]Robber
It is lightning quick and it is holding a brightly shining object, apparently an incredibly supercharged crystal of health. It must be holding some 100 charges! You suddenly stare in disbelief and horror at the pesterous creature as you realize it belongs to you. It gleefully smacks you in the face. You curse, spit out a tooth and start to run after him. Too late! All you hear is his mocking laugh.

[*]Thief's Cap
At first sight this looks like a common leather cap. It takes a close examination to notice the fine silver linings that signify the delicate enchantments on this piece of headgear. To a true thief, it will fit as if it were personally tailored. It makes the wearer look smooth and cunning and will bring him good fortune. Where "fortune" means gold.

Cutthroat

Brutish thugs that lurk a few levels under the city - Cutthroats are high enough in the Guild to prefer robbing from the dead rather than the steal-and-run techniques his weaker friends develop.

Pickpocket

A quick brush against your back and you never knew what happened. When adventurers see a Pickpocket, the Pickpocket has decided to fight; if they don't see a Pickpocket, and simply find an empty room, the Pickpocket decided to do what he does best.

Thieves Armour

Meticulously pieced together from leather and plates of different strengths in different areas of the armour - the Thieves Armour is specially designed for maximum maneuverability, and possibly the best protection on light armour.

Well, I've been meaning to do a whole list on the 'Thief' gear, but I've just been so swamped, I've only gotten around to the Sword and Gloves.

---

Thief Sword (level 2)
While weaponry is considered a necessary evil in even the most civilized of societies, there are some weapons that, even in less civilized areas, are frowned upon or downright outlawed. One such weapon is the Thief Sword. These short swords are designed to be more than mere implements of war, they bear enchantments that make the wielder faster in combat, as well as in more ‘unsavory’ roguish activities. Rogues are about the only ones who will wield these blades, as it is seen as beneath those of a more civilized bent. Among rogues however, a Thief Sword is a goal for many upstarts, as a sign of accomplishment and strength, since about the only way to get one is to steal it from it’s previous owner, or to pry it from their cold, dead hands. Law enforcement knows what these blades look like though, so one would be wise to hide it carefully while walking the streets.

---

Thief's Gloves (level 3)
Highly prized by Thieves and their ilk, these gloves are infused with haste magicks, making the wearer very deft, especially in the hands. These are considered required equipment by more experiences Thieves, and while they are also enchanted to look like normal leather gloves to not betray their wearer’s profession, they are extremely light and comfortable. Most importantly, they allow the wearer to manipulate things as if they wore no gloves at all, better even.

---

I may try to write up on the Armor and Cap, if I can get around to it before the round closes.

Cutthroat.
Little is known about the cutthroat. He is occasionally reported to be sighted in the safer regions of the dungeons, where he brutally murders novice adventurers. However, in sight of competent adverseries he takes no chances. In fact, he has a reputation for cowardice, even among thieves. Little is known about his position in the thieves guild. He is rumored to have parted with the guilds and started his own independent bussiness, but official sources have never confirmed or denied such rumors. Some say he has a secret lair, maybe even somewhere in the very city..

Thief's Armor
This armor has a foreboding look to it. It seems to be made out of pure shadow, lacking any substance. Looking at it begs the question how such a thing can even exist. It takes courage to touch it, as you somehow feel that your fingers might be swallowed by the shadows and disappear. Indeed, to the touch it feels both subtle like the finest satin and strangely numbing. To wrap your body in it is something that only few dare and survive. Foolish lesser souls have on some occasions tried it and died with a horrible expression on their face. Some of the greatest thieves wear it, however, and become able to hide in front of your very eyes.
