The only time it lists another file is when I turn the sound on, saying my WAVEMIX16.DLL is incompatible.

Could you give me a link? I think I might just download them all just in case...

@Xaphania: if virus can't write itself in Windows directory and in the registry without your permission, I'd say it's pretty good protection. Of course it all depends with how much you want to put with UAC. Can't stand it myself. dry.gif

Unless you have annoying little ... people ... around your computer all the time (and elieve me, i would sympathise) then your computer is quite safe without the UAC.

UAC prevents programs from doing anything that requires Administrator-level access. It's not perfect -- no security is -- but it's another layer, another barrier. I run Comodo Firewall Defense+, which throws all sorts of confirmation prompts at me any time any software displays any new behavior. Since I'm willing to put up with that, UAC doesn't feel like even the slightest inconvenience.

UAC doesn't stop kid brothers or whatever from screwing up your machine: all they have to do is hit the confirmation prompt, just like you would.

I use a password on my account, and even on my screen saver, but UAC never prompts me for one.

I would expect Windows 7 to have exactly the same problems running Mordor as Vista has. Has anyone tried Mordor on Win 7 yet?

Apparently any 64-bit OS's will apparently fail to run Mordor, or other games from that era.

The game seems to have oddly stabilized out of nowhere for me. Well, I've got it set to XP compatibility mode, but I can play it, as long as I don't click on anything in town.

I've been doing a little testing, and it appears the real cause of this issue is because I keep alt-tabbing into and out of the game. I vaguely recall seeing a thread elsewhere that said this changes active window order, and the game apparently does not like this.

I'll just bump this thread to see if anyone has any input, since I've installed it again, but am getting the same errors.

I think virtualisation is the only surefire way. OR, of course, you dual boot winxp. The former is more convenient, but also more CPU intensive.
